Students gain insight into the application of Newton's Second Law to accelerated masses with this large, self-contrined unit. A simple Atwood's machine consisting of a pulley and two masses connected by a cord is supended from a 20N demonstration spring scale. The scale shows the apparent weigh of the complete system, both at rest and when the masses are accelerating. Students use Newton's laws to explain their observation and estimate the tension in the cord. Overall height 83cm.
