CENCO Reversible Thermoelectric Demonstrator

Reproduce the Same Energy Transfer That Powered Voyager Spacecraft

Capture the interest of your students with this amazing demonstrator. Even though the converter has no moving parts, the apparatus changes thermal energy into electrical energy or vice versa.

Series-connected semiconductor junctions are sandwiched between two aluminum legs. Immerse the legs in baths of different temperatures and electrical energy is produced, causing th motor and flywheel to spin. Generates approximately 10mV for each degree difference in temperature between legs-1000 times more voltage than a thermocouple device. The motor plugs into 4mm banana jacks and is removable so you can monitor voltage output directly with a multimeter.

To reverse the process and demonstrate refrigeration, connect a low voltage source (6VDC/2A) to the two banana jacks. One leg will heat up while the other cools. Under good conditions, a temperature different of up to 17may be produced.

Include operating instructions, 2 insulated cups (8.6 diameter, 11cm high) and storage box that serves as a demonstration platform. Thermometer may be helpful to monitor the temperature changes. Unit is approximately 20cm tall.
