Magnetic Levitation Demonstration

The "levitation" in this device is not magic, but real science. Diamagnetism, Newton's Second Law and potential energy are just a few of the topics that will arise with the Magnetic Levitation Demo. Use it at the beginning of a unit as a discrepant event or investigate this wonder empirically with a potential energy versus position experiment.

How it Works:

The force of earth's gravity pulls the cube magnet downward. Simultaneously, the ceramic ring magnets exert an upward force. Two diamagnetic graphite plates, one above and below, repel either pole of the cube, creating a stable equilibrium.
